Installing or Upgrading to Groove Virtual Office, Version 3.1

This document describes how to install or upgrade to Groove Virtual Office, Version 3.1. Please read these instructions carefully.

Preparation for all users

If you use a browser other than Microsoft Internet Explorer, and you normally make custom Internet settings (such as configuring a proxy) through your browser, you must duplicate these settings in the Internet Options control panel. You do not need to modify any settings if you already use Internet Explorer as your browser.

Additionally, it's recommended that you close all other software applications, and disable all anti-spyware programs before installing or upgrading Groove Virtual Office 3.1.

If you're upgrading to Groove Version 3.1 from Groove Version 3.0

If you're upgrading to Groove Version 3.1 from Groove Version 3.0, you simply need to go to http://www.groove.net/setup and run the installation program.

Preparation for users upgrading from Groove version 2.x

If you're upgrading from Groove version 2.x, the following are recommended precautionary measures for backing up your workspace data before upgrading:

  • If you use your Groove account on only one computer, create backup archives of any workspaces in which you are the only member.
  • If you use your account on multiple computers, download all workspace data on all computers.  In Groove 2.x, review your list of workspaces in My Spaces, select any workspace that has the status "Not on this computer," and download the workspace data from another computer or workspace member.

Obtaining and activating a Groove 3.x Virtual Office License

Upgraders who have activated one or more licenses in their Groove 2.x accounts must obtain and activate an equivalent Groove 3.x license before running the upgrade process. For information on obtaining Groove product licenses, go to http://www.groove.net/downloads.

To activate a Groove 3.x license in your Groove 2.x account:

  1. Start Groove and log in to your account.
  2. Select Help - Activate Product.
  3. In the Activate Product dialog box, enter the Activation Key and Activation Server, type (or copy and paste) the 25 character activation key sent to you in an email. Groove should detect and fill in the required Activation Server address for you.
  4. Click Next and then click Finish.

You should now be ready to upgrade your account as described below in "Installing Groove 3.1 Virtual Office."

A Note about Passwords

You don't need to use a password, but we strongly recommend you do for security reasons. A password minimizes the risk that someone will use your data or account without your consent. A password can consist of any combination of characters, including spaces and numbers. Try to use a word or phrase that you can memorize and type easily, but one that's too long or cryptic for anyone else to figure out. If you share your computer with others, we recommend you don't check the "Remember my password on this computer" check box.

Uninstalling Groove Virtual Office
